Hey Folks wanted to share this great video put out by Google titled “Zeitgeist 2011: Year In Review“. Zeitgeist is defined as the spirit of the age. Its represented beautifully in this quick little video.
Its a really good marketing piece featuring how the world learned, searched and shared the years top news; using the worlds number one search engine Google.
The video is inspiring and reminds me that there is a wealth of strength in the human spirit. The ability to persevere, achieve break through barriers and succeed. We are and incredible species and this is a collection of our accomplishments and our challenges of the year.
Some of this years highlights included; The St. Louis Cardinals winning the World Series of Baseball; Green Bay took the Super Bowl; The Dragon spacecraft became the first private launch of a craft into space, successfully initiating the era of private spaceflight; The unveiling of the iPad2; The Fans of the Daytona 500 remembered their statesman #3 Dale Earnhardt Sr. (who was killed in this race 10 years prior) by going silent on the 3rd lap and holding up 3 fingers; The Kings Speech took Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
Navy Seals solidified there badass-ness with the discovery and subsequent killing of the worlds hide and seek champion, Code Name “Geronimo“, Osama Bin Laden.
There was a Royal wedding this year as Prince Harry married the lovely Kate Middleton; Harry Potter finally defeated his archenemy Lord Voldemort (his name can be said cause he won’t return) in the finale “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows“; Katy Perry matched a Michael Jackson record with 5 No.1 tracks from her album Teenage Dream. Speaking of M.J. his doctor Conrad Murray was sentenced to four years in connection with the King of Pop’s murder. That technically doesn’t qualify for a highlight of the year, but I’m sure to family members and fans it ranks up there.
Other low points of 2011 included; The final NASA launch of the shuttle Atlantis; The Magnitude 9.0 Earthquake near the coast of Honshu, Japan and the Tsunami that caused the Nuclear Reactor meltdowns in Fukushima on March 11th; After 25 years as Americas reigning TV hostess Oprah Winfrey said goodbye… well sort of (she’ll be back on the tube on her “OWN” network in January 2012.
This year we lost some notable individuals:
Screen Queen Elizabeth Taylor
Peter Falk known for Columbo
Jack Lalanne
Pete Postlewaite- the crafty lawyer Kobayashi in The Usual Suspects
Betty Ford
Andy Whitfield- who ignited our passion in Showtime’s hit series Spartacus -Gods of The Arena
Heavy D- who helped spark romantic grooves with the hit “Now that we Found Love”
Jeff Conway from one of my favorite movies Grease
Amy Winehouse
and of course most notably Steve Jobs

2011 Year In Review was a year for the Protesters
People around the world finally decided they wanted to matter and chose to make sure their governments understood as much. With the uprisings and toppling of governments in Tunisia, Sudan, Egypt and Libya, Greece the people decided they wanted change. The world took notice as governments began to fall one by one. All leading to the Occupy Wall Street protest here across the United States. The people here are saying they are tired of the corruption and collusion between big corporations and government.
Here’s a few more quick notables I didn’t want to leave out:
Americans lost more freedoms with the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and
the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA).
A robotic hummingbird became the newest spy-bot,
and Time Magazine posed the Question “Can You Still Move Up In America”.
U.S. Troops moved into Kuwait finally exiting Iraq and 9 years of war.
North Korean leader Kim Jong II has been pronounced dead.
Personally with all this going on I believe we need Ron Paul in the White House;)
2011′s Year In Review includes my One Year Wedding Anniversary
For me, 2011 a year in review includes my first years marriage anniversary, and we’re also expecting a baby girl , Celeste Margaret (who should be arriving any day now). Its the year we began a Home Based Business and the year my wife and I put up our first live Christmas tree. We are excited about becoming parents and successful entrepreneurs.
I hope you found this article memorable and informative. Join the discussion below as you let me know what was some highlights of this past year; As you also reflect on 2011 the year in review.
